It’s Christmas craft time at The Dawn Cottage! After our recent thrifting trip, we’ve come back to the cottage with so much holiday inspiration and we are excited to share what we plan to do with it all – even the things we haven’t thought of just yet! Taylor and I have a history of not knowing what we are doing – UNTIL we see that random thing that sparks an idea. Which sparks another……and another, until our brains are fully engulfed in exciting new ideas.
All of the decorations and gift ideas we share here can easily be modified to suit your taste and more importantly, your own supplies at home. Our objective is always to be resourceful and not wasteful by means of creativity. And hey, even if you don’t plan on lifting a finger, you can follow along to see what these two crazies end up doing with all of this second-hand stuff! Here’s a first-look:
Our Physical Mood Boards
We start by putting together a physical mood board so we can see everything arranged together and start fine-tuning from there. We began with a heavy haul of thrifted goodness that all spoke vintage and, of course, fluent cottage. Did all the colors immediately make sense? No! Did we just rummage through your grandparent’s storage unit? Not technically, no. But it would appear that way, yes.
Once we laid everything out we felt two themes bubbling to the surface – cozy country and vintage classic. We don’t like to put ourselves in the corner creatively, so while we do not plan on sticking strictly to these two themes, they are the inspiration for the fun DIY Christmas projects we have in store this holiday season.
Cozy Country
It was a beautiful blue and white quilt, bundles of needlepoint hoops, and a ton of found yarn that led us to this warm and comfy aesthetic. Think – cup of tea, cozy fire, cuddled in (somebody’s) grandma’s quilt – and so the crafty wheels started cranking on this entire mood.
Vintage Classic
We might actually be leaning very Euro on this one, but we ran with the classic Spode tree, a cute biscuit-tin-turned-music-box, a French soldier figure we can’t get over, and a Christmas quilt for our inspiration. Insert warm and fuzzy feelings here
The reason we are doing this is to inspire you to insert YOUR OWN warm and fuzzy feelings here and feel good about the beautiful things you have repurposed or created this season.
